Will Carpenter started his higher education in art at Wheaton College studying with, amongst other accomplished artists and educators, painter Joel Sheesley and sculptor Jeff Thompson. There, he began to understand the powerful depths, and rich nuances of fine art. Intrigued by the medium of paint he resolved to invest himself in representational imagery. Subsequently, he painted in Ecuador, South America until the University of Miami accepted him into their MFA program on a full ride scholarship and stipend. He moved to Coral Gables Florida to study under UM's Walter Darby Bannard, an acclaimed minimalist, abstract expressionist painter and art writer/critic. He worked under Brian Curtis, Author of Drawing from Observation and as a studio assistant to the glass artist William Carlson.

Will most loves being a husband to his wife Jackie and a father to a handful of kids. During the school year he invests himself into his students at 69ÌÃ. He loves helping them grow in their abilities, perception, and cognition. For ~20 years he has taught courses in art appreciation, color, design, drawing, painting and printmaking. He and his wife have led art travel courses to Italy. In the gaps between his family and school time he pursues a professional practice of art, making paintings for places of worship and devoting himself to drawings and paintings of abstracted suburban landscapes, portraits and other imaginative imagery. He maintains a membership with the prestigious and historic Hoosier Salon. His work has won a variety of awards, including the Executive Director's award at the 95th Hoosier Salon Annual Exhibition and been in numerous juried exhibits, universities, and other venues around the country.

INTERESTS

There is no one like our God! I love watching him knit people together, strengthening his Church through the supernatural power of his Holy Spirit. I love culture-creation that expands his Kingdom and it's values…. SO:  I enjoy good stories. I enjoy learning (especially through audio books). I enjoy any kind of making in the visual arts, especially painting, collage, printmaking, and drawing, + some wood working & other sculptural items. I enjoy poetry, I appreciate dance. I enjoy listening to and making music, especially violin (since I was 5) and a little mandolin, harmonica, banjo, guitar.  I’m a better ear musician than reader. Singing and whistling are essential! I enjoy participating any sport that’s not just running. I've play(ed) football, golf, disc golf, track (ick), tennis, field hockey, fencing, ping-pong and most often now… pickleball!
